The Public Pulse: TransCanada will ensure Keystone XL is safe
Omaha World-Herald - President Donald Trump revived a vital asset to ensure America’s energy security when he gave approval to TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline on Friday.
Some have raised concerns about the safety of groundwater in Nebraska. As someone who grew up on a farm in Nebraska, I also understand that chemicals are applied on the land to maximize crop production. On our farm, we had our well water tested annually for possible contamination from chemical spray runoff.
TransCanada currently has safely operated the existing Keystone pipeline in Nebraska since 2010 and uses the latest technology to control and monitor its system. I understand the Keystone XL will have the same equipment and be just as safe.
In the rare event that there is a small release, evidence has shown that oil will not seep down but remain in place at the location of the leak until cleaned up.
Uncontaminated groundwater is important, and so is America’s energy security. I have full confidence that the Keystone XL pipeline will safely and securely transport oil across Nebraska.
